Summer, sun, hot as hell under the dreads.
Yes, it’s not easy with dreadlocks in the height of summer. Most dreadheads say it’s hotter under dreads than with normal hair. Don’t worry, there are many things you can do to help you get through the heat phase better.
What can you do about the heat under dreads?
There are a few ways to reduce the heat on dreadlocks in the summer. For me, the right hairstyle is the best way to keep a cool head.
The right hairstyle
It is important that the neck remains free. This is where the greatest heat accumulates. That’s why it’s best to make a chignon on the crown. This protects you from above and can also be super insulating depending on the length of the dreads. If you put a thin scarf over the chignon, you have the ideal sun protection that lets the wind through.
Embouchure crochet
If your approaches have grown together in many places, the heat can build up quite a bit. There is a simple solution for this. Refresh your approaches and you will feel much better. But beware, with freshly crocheted approaches, the scalp is exposed to the sun more than usual. Be careful not to get sunburned.
Ice cube
If everything, nothing helps anymore, I have another secret tip. At festivals, I often use ice cubes that I slip under the chignon with. They go pleasantly slowly.
